I GIUSTI & ZANZA

I Giusti & Zanza Vigneti  is an historical reality of Tuscan viticulture, it grew from the renovation of  an old Estate which, by the Hills of Fauglia, produced wine from the beginning of the XIX century.

Geographic Area: This area is part of the TuscanCoast, about 30 Km in the North from Bolgheri at 100meters height, where  the mild  influence of the  marine climate  is still well-felt.

The land is characterized by smooth alluvial hills,  soft sand gravel and lime soil with some clay, workable and with good drainage.

The Mediterranean Climate, with mild winters and tempered summers, linked to the intense light of the Area assure ideal conditions for the vines.

The Vineyards: At present we cultivate 17 hectares, mainly producing red grapes. The plantation density varies, for the different grapes cultivated, from 9,000 to 10,500 vines per hectare, the age of the vines ranges from  10 years for the youngest plants to  40 years for the oldest. Grape production is at its most 8,000kilos per hectare with low plant yield that guarantees the perfec ripeness of grapes.

The Agricultural Conduction is organic and we work only with organic and biodynamic compounds in the vineyards.

The variety of vines we cultivate are mainly Sangiovese, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Alicante; and small quantities of white grapes such as Semillon and Trebbiano Toscano.

The Harvest: The Old Vineyards, like the new ones, are harvested by hand so as to make a first selection of grapes directly in the vineyard.

The Vinification: Our grapes are vinified in the traditional way, exploiting the natural extracting capacity of must, with gentle pigiages and delestages  and a long period of fermentation: up to 18/24 days depending on the type of grape and on its ripeness.

The élevage of our wines is made in 300lt (medium toasted) French tonneaux for varying periods of time depending on the varieties and on the vintage.

The wines are bottled after a light filtering with no stabilization so that some sediment, at the bottom of the bottle, is proof of a natural product.
